Phnom Penh Extends Suspension of High-Risk Businesses

Phnom Penh: The Phnom Penh Capital Administration has announced that the suspension of high-risk businesses and gatherings of more than 15 people will continue for a further 14 days. This includes the current ban on alcohol sales. The measures will continue through Thursday 7 October.

The measures had been due to expire on Thursday 23 September. The ban on alcohol sales has now been in effect for six weeks, but high-risk businesses including KTVs, bars and beer gardens, massage parlours, gyms, movie houses and museums have been closed since the first week of March. There had been hopes that the measures would be lifted this week, but Delta cases continue to be reported in the capital. Just on Thursday afternoon, Olympic Market was closed to allow for rapid testing to be carried out, although no new cases were detected.

Also on Wednesday, Siem Reap announced an extension to its 9pm-3am curfew for a further 14 days through Tuesday 5 October. Across the provincial border in Preah Vihear, the Provincial Administration designated Maha Phal Village as a red zone for two weeks, also through Tuesday 5 October.
